Further Information

When we are closed

For urgent advice that cannot wait until we re-open, phone your usual surgery number and the answerphone message will advise you who to call.

The operator in the emergency call centre who answers your call will either:

  • arrange for you to speak to a doctor or nurse
  • invite you to attend the centre to be seen by the doctor
  • arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the centre

Details of out of hours consultations are passed to the practice to keep your medical records up to date, as well as by the out of hours service.

The York NHS Urgent Care Centre at York Hospital (located in the emergency department) provides urgent advice and treatment for minor ailments and injuries, but there may be a wait.

It is open seven days a week, from 08:00 to 18:00 and you do not need an appointment.

Call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk online if you have an urgent medical problem and are unsure what to do.

Pharmacists have trained for five years and can offer expert advice on many minor illnesses and conditions plus you don’t need an appointment.

Many pharmacies are open late and at weekends too.
